Competition Main Page Competition Rules Legal Conditions Competition Rules Scenic Virginia invites all who are inspired by Virginia's scenic viewsheds to enter its 2009 Viewshed Photo Competition. Please read the following rules, terms and conditions before submitting any photos! YOUR RIGHTS: You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit -- including ownership if applicable -- other than those rights licensed in the next sentence. By entering the Viewshed Photo Competition, you hereby grant to Scenic Virginia (i) a nonexclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the photographs you submit to Scenic Virginia, and (ii) the right to use your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications. When Scenic Virginia publishes your photograph, you will always be given credit. WHAT TO ENTER: We are looking for striking digital images of Virginia's scenic viewsheds. Your images may be taken anywhere in Virginia and should represent one of the five categories: Coastal/Chesapeake Bay Mountains Open Space/Farmland Rivers/Waterways Urban Landscapes All submissions must include 1) the location of the image, 2) the name, address and phone of the photographer, and 3) a category for each photograph being entered. All photographs will be credited with the caption "©Person's Name." Scenic Virginia has final approval of language that appears on its website with any of the photos and will not promote or endorse third-party products or services. HOW TO ENTER: Step One: Email the following information to schiffriller@scenicvirginia.org -- Your name / address / phone number and up to 5 digital photos (specify one of the five categories for each photo and a descriptive title that includes the location of each photo). No photos will be approved for the Flickr™ group until this information is submitted. Step Two: To submit your photos via Flickr™, use your Yahoo!® ID to login to www.flickr.com. If you do not have an account, you can sign-up for free at www.flickr.com. Flickr™ and Yahoo!® are trademarks of Yahoo, Inc. After logging in, upload your images using the mechanism provided. If you are not already a member of 2009 Scenic Virginia Photo Competition Group on Flickr™, join by clicking "Join this Group?" on the group's homepage. Browse to the image you wish to submit for the contest, and use the "Send to Group" function to add your images to Scenic Virginia's photo pool. Once added to the group, tag each photo with (Name of Category)-SV 09. If you do not upload your photo to 2009  Scenic Virginia Photo Competition's group on Flickr™, or do not tag your photo with an appropriate tag, it will not be considered for the competition. If you have trouble using Flickr™, please consult their online help files. Scenic Virginia is not responsible for any issues or problems you encounter while trying to upload a photo on Flickr™.You can check to make sure your photos have been uploaded by going on the Flickr website and looking for your photos. ELIGIBILITY AND JUDGING: Entries may originate in any format -- including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints -- so long as they are submitted electronically. The photos should be at least 5 mega pixel (we need clear images to reproduce). Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see "Your Rights" above). You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to Scenic Virginia upon request. Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. The panel of judges will be selected by Scenic Virginia's Board of Trustees. Scenic Virginia shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final. The photo competition is not open to the Board members and staff of Scenic Virginia. DEADLINES: Deadline for submitting entries is 5 pm EST on September 7, 2009. Winners will be notified by October 1, with winning photographs presented at Scenic Virginia's 2009 Scenic Awards Luncheon, scheduled for October at the historic Kent-Valentine House in Richmond. Scenic Virginia reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control. WINNING PHOTOS: A panel of judges will select a winner in each of the five categories and a grand prize winner. Prizes and appreciation include: Recognition and exhibit at the 2009 Scenic Awards ceremony in October. Special acknowledgment in our “Yes, Virginia!” newsletter. Winning photos featured on our website. Winning photos will be printed on note cards for Scenic Virginia’s 2009 set. The photographers will each receive 5 sets of Scenic Virginia’s 2009 note cards -- a $50 value. Winning photographs will exhibit at the 2010 General Assembly.
