Competition Rules Legal Conditions Press Release 2009 Photo Contest Winners 2008 Photo Contest Winners   Competition Rules/How to Enter Scenic Virginia invites photographers -- amateur and professional -- to enter its 2010 Viewshed Photo Competition. Please read the following rules, terms and conditions before submitting any photos. WHAT TO ENTER: We are looking for beautiful digital images of Virginia’s scenic viewsheds. Your images can be taken anywhere in Virginia and should represent one of the five categories: Coastal/Chesapeake Bay Cities and Towns/Urban Landscapes Farmland/Open Space Mountains* -- Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway Rivers/Waterways* -- Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Virginia State Scenic Rivers program. * NOTE: For the 2010 Competition, the Mountains category is limited to photos taken along the Virginia portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Similarly, the Rivers/Waterways category is limited to photos taken along designated State Scenic Rivers. (Visit www.dcr.virginia.gov/recreational_planning/documents/srlist.pdf for the list of Virginia’s designated State Scenic Rivers.) HOW TO ENTER: Email each photo (one photo per email, please, with a maximum of five per photographer) to: ScenicVirginiaPhotoCompetition@gmail.com, as follows: 1) In the subject line of your email, state the category and the photo name, e.g., Chesapeake -- Sunset Bay View; Mountains -- Blue Ridge Parkway at Mabry Mill; Cities and Towns -- Charlottesville Foggy Morning, etc. This is how your photo will be identified by the judges. 2) In the body of the email, provide additional descriptive location information not included in the subject line that will help us catalog the photo, e.g., Belle Isle State Park in Lancaster County; the James River in Richmond; King Street in Old Town Alexandria, etc. 3) Please include your full contact information, including the photographer’s name, mailing address, phone number and preferred email address. NOTE: Photographers are limited to a maximum of five entries, which can be divided as you set fit among the various categories. Photographers will receive an email confirming receipt of each photograph. As quickly as possible, Scenic Virginia will upload the photos to our Picasa Web Album (picasaweb.google.com/scenicvirginia). DEADLINE: Deadline for submitting entries is June 30, 2010 at 5:00 pm EST. Winners will be notified by August 15, 2010. Winning photographs will be presented at Scenic Virginia’s 2010 Scenic Awards Luncheon, scheduled for the fall of 2010. Scenic Virginia reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control. ELIGIBILITY AND JUDGING: Entries may originate in any format -- including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints -- but must be submitted electronically. The photos should be at least 5 mega pixels (we need clear images to reproduce). Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted can be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see "Your Rights" above). You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to Scenic Virginia upon request. Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. The panel of judges will be selected by Scenic Virginia’s Board of Trustees. Scenic Virginia shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final. The photo competition is not open to the Board members and staff of Scenic Virginia. WINNING PHOTOS: A panel of judges will select a winner in each of the five categories and a Best in Show. Each winner will receive: Two tickets and recognition at the 2010 Scenic Awards ceremony.   Mention in our “Yes, Virginia!” newsletter. Prominent placement on our website. Three sets of Scenic Virginia’s 2010 note cards -- a $36.00 value -- that feature the winning photographs. An 8x10 matted photo of their winning entry. YOUR RIGHTS: You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit -- including ownership, if applicable -- other than those rights licensed in the next sentence. By entering the Viewshed Photo Competition, you hereby grant to Scenic Virginia (i) a nonexclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the photographs you submit to Scenic Virginia, and (ii) the right to use your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications. All photographs will be credited with the caption "©Person's Name." Scenic Virginia has final approval of any language that appears on its website with any of the photos and will not promote or endorse third-party products or services.
