Value of a View Roundtable
$35.00

conversation about how scenic landscapes shape Virginia’s identity, economy, and future.

We’re pleased to invite you to Scenic Virginia’s 1st Annual Roundtable. This gathering will bring together partners and stakeholders committed to preserving the Commonwealth’s scenic landscapes.

As pressures on our most treasured landscapes continue to growhow do we protect the places we value most? This panel will explore practical strategies for identifying scenic assets, clearly illustrating potential impacts, and effectively mitigating change. As development challenges reach every community, establishing thoughtful, proactive protocols is essential to preserving the character and beauty that define where we live.

This inaugural conversation is designed to build a shared understanding of how we identify, recognize, and protect Virginia’s most treasured views. Just as importantly, it’s an opportunity to act, ensuring that significant scenic resources are recognized early, before potential threats to their preservation arise.

Our goal is simple: that each guest leaves with a specific viewshed in mind for nomination to Scenic Virginia’s Treasured Views Program.

What to Expect at the 1st Annual Value of A View Rountable

  • Scenic Virginia has developed a first-of-its-kind Virginia Treasured Views Program to identify the Commonwealth’s most scenic areas and recognize them in the Scenic Virginia Register.

This project is an outgrowth of years invested in identifying and preserving special scenic places, for the benefit of both rural and urban citizens. We have created a repeatable, scientifically based format for proving viewsheds are scenic. This process and evaluation criteria include both science-based criteria and informed community values to identify, establish significance, and to map the important scenic views so these can be inventoried and the information used to inform planning and protection.

  • Scenic Virginia and the Piedmont Environmental Council are want to introduce the Treasured Views programs to a broader audience and encourage communities to identify and nominate important viewsheds in their area.

This roundtable will provide background on the program and highlight how viewsheds are at risk in this current climate of development.

  • In 2026, Scenic Virginia is proud to partner with the Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) to expand the Treasured Views program statewide. Together, we will bring this proven approach to more regions, empowering residents, planners, and conservation partners to protect Virginia’s visual and cultural identity.

  • No, this program is geared towards local citizens and community interest groups!

  • If you cannot attend will be taping the program and sharing it on both PEC and SV’s website.

  • "I’ve gotten especially interested lately in trying to get people to look past the visual aspects of the view and think more deeply about the multiple and sometimes conflicting environmental and cultural narratives that animate the places we inhabit.
